Plant Mechanic Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Maintenance and Repair:
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on plant machinery, including engines, motors, conveyors, and hydraulic systems.
- Diagnose mechanical problems and repair or replace defective parts.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and precision-measuring instruments to ensure proper functionality of equipment.
Troubleshooting:
- Identify and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues with plant equipment.
- Quickly respond to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime and production losses.
- Collaborate with other maintenance personnel to resolve complex technical problems.
Preventive Maintenance:
- Develop and follow preventive maintenance schedules to ensure that machinery operates efficiently and has a long service life.
- Lubricate, clean, and adjust machinery as needed to prevent wear and tear.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed on equipment.
Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while performing maintenance and repairs.
- Ensure that equipment is safe to operate by conducting regular safety checks and repairs.
- Participate in safety training and contribute to a safe working environment.
Parts and Inventory Management:
- Order replacement parts and maintain an inventory of critical components needed for repairs.
- Work with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery of parts.
- Keep track of tools, materials, and equipment used in the plant.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with plant operators, engineers, and other team members to ensure smooth plant operations.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and provide updates on the status of repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Train and mentor junior mechanics and other plant staff on proper equipment handling and maintenance.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or an associate degree in mechanical or industrial technology is preferred.
- Experience: 2-5 years of experience as a mechanic, preferably in an industrial or plant environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT), welding certification) are an advantage.
