Our Client, one of the fastest growing well-established Non-Withdrawable Deposit Taking Sacco based in Nairobi is seeking to recruit a dynamic, self-driven, and result-oriented individual to join their energetic and vibrant team in their fast paced, modern work environment in the position of an Accountant.

Reporting line

Reporting to the Senior Accountant and Finance Manager, the Accountant will be involved in carrying out the accounting duties which support the Sacco’s overall strategic goals and objectives of providing support to the Finance department and other staff members in providing efficient service to the Sacco members.

Responsibilities

  1. Accurate and timely updating of Members’ Personal Accounts and general ledger,
  2. Daily receipting (standing orders, direct debits, M-PESA and Other remittances) and cash management.
  3. Accurately daily processing of loan disbursement including preparations, and receipt, verification and banking cheques, refunds and any other member related payments.
  4. Timely and accurate processing of supplier, allowances and other payments.
  5. Debtor and Creditors updates and management.
  6. Reconciling of members’ accounts and Eft payments with the loan listings.
  7. Ensure proper and up to date reconciliation of all cash, bank online or MPESA transactions, and GL accounts.
  8. Petty cash management and reconciliation.
  9. Processing yearly dividend /Interest.
  10. Validating and processing of refunds and withdrawals to ensure the right amount are refunded to the right members.
  11. Prepare daily summaries of expenses and cash position reports.
  12. Ensure compliance and filling of taxes e.g. income tax returns and preparation of all other statutory deductions NSSF, PAYE, SHA, Housing levy are made to the required authorities on a timely basis.
  13. Generally, safeguard the integrity of the Society’s data and maintain proper books of accounts for the Sacco.
  14. In collaboration with finance manager support preparation and presentation of annual revenue, budgets, financial statements, cash flow projections and all requisite reports and participate in implementation of adequate budgetary controls.
  15. Any other duties that may be assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Holder of a Bachelor of Commerce / Business Administration degree or its equivalent from a recognized University and ACCA/ CPA (K) finalist or its equivalent and a member of ICPAK with a good standing.
  • Knowledge of specialized accounting softwares (EPRs) including Navision software and computer applications like word processing and spreadsheet (excel)
  • At least 3 years’ experience and exposure in carrying out accounting functions in a financial institution especially in the Sacco sector is highly desired.
  • Conversant with the Co-operative Act, SACCO Act and IFRS.

  • A strong teamwork and results-oriented person with excellent interpersonal skills, able to work with great agility and collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively working with targets under tight strict deadlines.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills with leadership capabilities
  • Knowledge of computerized banking systems.

Compensation

A working wage of Kes 40,000.00 will be offered to the suitable candidate
