Description

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounts Assistant to support the finance department with day-to-day accounting tasks. The ideal candidate should have a solid foundation in accounting principles and be proficient in financial record-keeping, reconciliations, and reporting. This role requires someone with strong analytical skills, high accuracy, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Transactions & Record-Keeping

  • Assist in processing invoices, payments, and receipts in compliance with company policies.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure proper documentation of all transactions.
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections.
  • Reconcile bank statements, supplier accounts, and customer accounts to ensure accuracy.

Bookkeeping & Reconciliations

  • Maintain the general ledger and update financial data in accounting software.
  • Prepare and post journal entries for monthly closings.
  • Reconcile petty cash and expense claims, ensuring proper approvals and documentation.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closing procedures.

Tax & Compliance Support

  • Assist in the preparation and filing of statutory returns (VAT, PAYE, NHIF, NSSF, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation.

Reporting & Financial Analysis

  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Support variance analysis by comparing actual costs against budgets.
  • Generate aging reports for receivables and follow up on overdue accounts.

Administrative & Support Tasks

  • Assist in maintaining supplier and customer records.
  • Coordinate with procurement and other departments to ensure smooth financial operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the finance team.

Key Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma/Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA/ACCA qualifications are an added advantage).
  • At least 2 years of experience in an accounting role.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, SAP, Xero, or other ERP systems.
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of taxation laws and statutory compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
