Accounts Assistant
Description
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounts Assistant to support the finance department with day-to-day accounting tasks. The ideal candidate should have a solid foundation in accounting principles and be proficient in financial record-keeping, reconciliations, and reporting. This role requires someone with strong analytical skills, high accuracy, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Transactions & Record-Keeping
- Assist in processing invoices, payments, and receipts in compliance with company policies.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure proper documentation of all transactions.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections.
- Reconcile bank statements, supplier accounts, and customer accounts to ensure accuracy.
Bookkeeping & Reconciliations
- Maintain the general ledger and update financial data in accounting software.
- Prepare and post journal entries for monthly closings.
- Reconcile petty cash and expense claims, ensuring proper approvals and documentation.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closing procedures.
Tax & Compliance Support
- Assist in the preparation and filing of statutory returns (VAT, PAYE, NHIF, NSSF, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation.
Reporting & Financial Analysis
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and forecasts.
- Support variance analysis by comparing actual costs against budgets.
- Generate aging reports for receivables and follow up on overdue accounts.
Administrative & Support Tasks
- Assist in maintaining supplier and customer records.
- Coordinate with procurement and other departments to ensure smooth financial operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the finance team.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma/Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA/ACCA qualifications are an added advantage).
- At least 2 years of experience in an accounting role.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, SAP, Xero, or other ERP systems.
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of taxation laws and statutory compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
