Collections and Recovery Officer

Mwananchi Credit Ltd is seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Collections and Recovery Officer to join our dynamic credit and risk team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing delinquent accounts, following up with clients on overdue payments, negotiating repayment plans, and implementing recovery strategies in line with company policies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Follow up on assigned non-performing and delinquent accounts to ensure timely repayments.

• Contact clients via calls, emails, SMS, and in-person visits to negotiate and recover outstanding debts.

• Analyze customer financial situations and offer appropriate repayment plans or restructuring options.

• Maintain detailed and accurate records of collection efforts and client communications.

• Escalate unresolved accounts to the legal team for further recovery actions when necessary.

• Work closely with field officers, legal, and finance departments to coordinate recovery efforts.

• Recommend accounts for write-off or legal recovery where applicable.

• Ensure compliance with internal credit policies and regulatory guidelines.

• Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly recovery reports.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, Credit Management, Finance, or a related field.

• At least 2 years’ experience in credit collections and recovery, preferably in a microfinance, SACCO, or lending institution.

• Strong negotiation and debt recovery skills.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

• Ability to work under pressure and meet strict targets.

• High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

• Knowledge of credit and legal recovery procedures is an added advantage.
