Role Overview

The Headteacher will serve as the chief academic and administrative leader for the Junior School. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of school operations, curriculum implementation, staff development, and student welfare. Your primary focus will be to ensure that both learners and educators thrive in an environment that promotes innovation, critical thinking, and character development.


Key Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership & Academic Excellence

  • Lead the full implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum across Grades 7–9.

  • Monitor and evaluate teaching and learning outcomes, ensuring high academic standards are maintained.

  • Develop and review academic policies, assessment frameworks, and improvement strategies.

  • Champion the use of data-driven instruction to track student progress and close learning gaps.

Staff Coaching, Mentoring & Performance Management

  • Recruit, induct, and develop a high-performing team of teachers and support staff.

  • Provide ongoing instructional coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.

  • Conduct regular performance appraisals and provide constructive feedback to enhance teacher effectiveness.

  • Foster a collaborative and supportive staff culture that encourages innovation and shared learning.

School Operations & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Oversee day-to-day school operations, including timetabling, resource allocation, and facility management.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with parents, guardians, and the wider community.

  • Represent the school in meetings with education officials, TSC, and other regulatory bodies.

  • Prepare and manage the school budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.

Student Welfare & Behaviour Management

  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment for all students.

  • Develop and implement behavior management policies that encourage discipline, respect, and personal responsibility.

  • Oversee pastoral care programs, including guidance and counseling services.

  • Address student concerns and grievances promptly and fairly.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from a recognized institution. A Master's degree in Education Leadership, Educational Administration, or a related field is an added advantage.

  • Professional Registration: Must be registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

  • Teaching Experience: Minimum of 10 years of teaching experience, preferably at the secondary school level.

  • Leadership Experience: At least 5 years in a leadership role such as Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, or Head of Department (HOD).

  • Track Record: Proven success in improving academic performance (KCSE) and leading teacher development initiatives.

  • Curriculum Expertise: Strong background in Competency-Based Education (CBE), instructional coaching, and curriculum design.

  • Core Competencies: Visionary leadership, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong organizational abilities, and a passion for student outcomes.
