Description
The General Accountant will be responsible for maintaining financial records, preparing financial statements, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and tax requirements. The role requires a proactive professional with strong analytical skills and attention to detail to support the organization’s financial health and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Accounting and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS.
- Assist in preparing management reports, including variance analysis.
Accounts Payable and Receivable:
- Process invoices, payments, and receipts in a timely manner.
- Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on overdue payments.
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies.
Tax Compliance:
- Prepare and file statutory returns (VAT, PAYE, NSSF, NHIF, Withholding Tax, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with local tax regulations and liaise with tax authorities as required.
Banking and Cash Management:
- Perform bank reconciliations and ensure accurate recording of transactions.
- Manage petty cash and maintain proper documentation for all disbursements.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Support the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to financial policies and procedures.
- Identify and address internal control gaps to mitigate risks.
Audit and External Liaison:
- Assist in the preparation and coordination of internal and external audits.
- Provide necessary documentation and support during audits.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and systems.
- Assist in the implementation of financial software and tools as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Professional Certifications:
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or ACCA certification is preferred.
Experience:
- At least 3–5 years of experience in accounting or a similar role, preferably in the manufacturing sector.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAGE, or ERP systems).
- Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
