We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Assistant Accountant to join our finance team. This role is critical to the coordination of revenue, management, and reconciliation accounting to ensure the delivery of quality and timely accounting services and reporting across all business operations.

The ideal candidate will be a proactive professional with a strong background in real estate accounting, a thorough understanding of Kenyan tax regulations, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and accuracy. You will undertake the administration of operational matters and such tasks that may determine your office.


Essential Function

The Assistant Accountant is responsible for coordinating revenue streams, managing reconciliations, and ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting for all business operations. This role ensures the integrity of financial records and compliance with regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Operations & Reporting:

    • Oversee real estate accounting operations, including cash flow management, budgeting, and preparation of monthly financial reports for management.

    • Maintain project cost ledgers, track land acquisition and development expenses, and monitor escrow or client accounts.

    • Ensure 100% compliance with Kenyan tax regulations (VAT, Withholding Tax, Income Tax, etc.) and oversee audit preparations.

  • Client & Receivables Management:

    • Track client installation plans and reconcile property booking payments accurately.

    • Issue client statements and proactively manage arrears collection to optimize cash flow.

  • Payables & Commissions:

    • Verify supplier invoices and process operational payments in a timely manner.

    • Accurately calculate agent and consumer commission schedules.

  • Reconciliations:

    • Perform monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, client ledgers, tax accounts, and petty cash to ensure error-free financial records.

  • Internal Controls & Compliance:

    • Ensure robust internal financial controls are in place and adhered to.

    • Safeguard client data and preserve the confidentiality of all financial records.

    • Continuously identify and drive process improvements to enhance efficiency.


Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or a Diploma in Finance, Accounting, or an equivalent business-related course from a recognized institution.

  • Must possess a professional qualification: CPA (K) or ACCA.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in a similar accounting role.

  • Real estate industry experience is mandatory.

Technical Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of Kenyan tax laws and regulations.

  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and procedures.

  • Proficiency with relevant accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or ERP systems).

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).

  • Highly developed analytical, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • High level of integrity, commitment, and ethical behavior.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet strict deadlines.
