Our client, a reputable firm in the real estate sector, is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to join their finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in real estate accounting, including managing tenant and landlord ledgers, rental income tracking, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
Job Summary
The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing bank reconciliations, preparing monthly management accounts, and handling VAT returns. The role requires proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks or Xero, as well as a solid understanding of rental accounting, trust accounts, and property management compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day bookkeeping activities, including recording financial transactions, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
Maintain tenant and landlord ledgers, including tracking rental income, deposits, and expense allocations.
Prepare monthly management accounts and supporting schedules for review by management.
File VAT returns accurately and ensure timely submission in compliance with Kenyan tax regulations.
Work with QuickBooks, Xero, and real estate/property management software to streamline accounting processes.
Monitor trust accounts and ensure compliance with relevant property management and accounting standards.
Assist with budget tracking, cash flow monitoring, and expense control.
Liaise with property managers, tenants, and landlords to resolve billing or payment discrepancies.
Support audit preparations and maintain organized financial records for easy retrieval.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum of 2 years of proven bookkeeping experience, with a preference for candidates who have worked in real estate or property management.
Strong proficiency in QuickBooks and/or Xero.
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial formulas).
Solid understanding of rental accounting, trust account management, and real estate compliance requirements.
Knowledge of Kenyan tax regulations, including VAT and withholding tax, is an added advantage.
High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
A certificate or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required; a degree is an added advantage.
