Description
We are seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Chief Accountant to lead and oversee the accounting operations of our organization. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and efficient management of the accounting team. This role demands strong leadership, excellent analytical skills, and hands-on experience with SAP and financial systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliations, and payroll.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting in line with IFRS/GAAP standards.
- Lead budget preparation, monitoring, and forecasting processes in collaboration with relevant departments.
- Oversee internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial transactions and compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate and support internal and external audits, providing all necessary documentation and explanations.
- Monitor cash flow, manage working capital, and prepare periodic financial and management reports.
- Maintain and update financial systems (SAP), ensuring accurate data entry, reporting, and system upgrades.
- Guide and mentor accounting staff, providing training, development, and performance evaluation.
- Assist in financial planning, cost analysis, and strategic decision-making.
- Ensure full compliance with tax regulations and handle tax planning and submissions.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) and a registered member of ICPAK.
- Minimum of 6 years’ cumulative experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
- Proficient in SAP ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel.
- Strong knowledge of accounting standards (IFRS/GAAP) and financial principles.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage conflicting priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Desirable:
- Experience in a large or reputable organization.
- ACCA or additional financial certifications.
- Exposure to donor-funded or public sector accounting will be an added advantage.
