Our client is a leading food manufacturer based in Nairobi, renowned for quality and innovation in the FMCG sector. They are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Financial Controller to join their leadership team and drive financial excellence across the organization.
About the Role
We are looking for a strategic and results-driven Financial Controller to lead the full finance function. In this role, you will be responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and management accounts while partnering with the leadership team to drive commercial decision-making and profitability improvement.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned finance professional with deep experience in the FMCG or food manufacturing industry, strong stakeholder management skills, and a proven track record of managing banking relationships and regulatory compliance.
Key Focus Areas
Financial Reporting & Management
Lead the full finance function, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and preparation of management accounts.
Ensure accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes.
Manage cash flow, working capital, and liquidity planning across the business.
Banking & Treasury Management
Liaise with banks and financial institutions to secure and manage credit facilities, overdrafts, and other funding arrangements.
Optimize working capital solutions to support business operations and growth.
Regulatory Compliance
Lead engagement with regulatory bodies, including KRA, on tax compliance, filings, and audits.
Oversee statutory compliance, internal controls, and audit readiness (both external and internal).
Commercial Partnership
Partner with the leadership team on commercial decision-making, cost control, and profitability improvement initiatives.
Drive continuous improvement in financial processes, systems, and reporting.
Team Leadership
Supervise, mentor, and develop the finance team to build a high-performing function.
Qualifications
Education
Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or a related field.
CPA (K) or equivalent professional qualification (ACCA/CIMA) is mandatory.
Experience
Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive finance experience.
At least 5 years in a Financial Controller or Finance Manager role.
Strong FMCG or food manufacturing background is essential.
Technical Skills
Proven experience liaising with KRA and managing tax compliance matters.
Demonstrated ability to engage banks and successfully secure/manage credit facilities and working capital solutions.
Strong knowledge of IFRS, internal controls, and management reporting.
Hands-on experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Syspro, or similar.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
