Description
We are seeking an experienced and strategic General Manager to lead the operations, business growth, and overall performance of a growing Microfinance Institution. The successful candidate will provide leadership across branch operations, credit management, portfolio quality, and commercial strategy while driving sustainable growth and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the organization's strategic and operational plans to achieve business objectives.
- Provide leadership and oversight for branch operations across the country to ensure operational efficiency and service excellence.
- Drive portfolio growth while maintaining high portfolio quality and minimizing credit risk.
- Oversee credit underwriting, collections, recoveries, and risk management frameworks.
- Develop and execute strategies to increase profitability, customer acquisition, and market penetration.
- Monitor financial performance, operational KPIs, and branch productivity, implementing corrective actions where necessary.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and governance standards.
- Lead, mentor, and develop senior management and branch leadership teams to achieve high performance.
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, partners, investors, and other key stakeholders.
- Support organizational transformation initiatives, including business expansion and strategic change management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Banking, or a related field.
- A Master's degree (MBA or equivalent) will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in microfinance, banking, or credit-focused financial services.
- At least 4 years in a senior regional, branch operations, or executive leadership role.
- Demonstrated expertise in credit risk management, collections, recoveries, and portfolio management.
- Proven experience driving commercial growth and business expansion.
- Strong understanding of financial services regulations and governance.
- Excellent leadership, strategic planning, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively across the country.
Added Advantage
- Experience leading or supporting the transition of a Microfinance Institution into a Commercial Bank or participating in similar transformation projects.
