Description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic General Manager to lead our microfinance institution through its next phase of growth. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can balance strategic vision with operational excellence, specifically in scaling branch networks, maintaining a high-quality loan portfolio, and driving commercial profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute business strategies to expand the branch network and increase market share across Kenya.

  • Operations Management: Oversee daily operations across all branches, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and high service standards.

  • Credit Risk & Portfolio Quality: Manage the overall credit risk framework. Ensure robust underwriting standards and lead collections strategies to maintain a healthy Non-Performing Loan (NPL) ratio.

  • Commercial Growth: Drive revenue growth through product development, customer acquisition, and cross-selling initiatives.

  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of regional and branch managers, fostering a high-performance culture.

  • Financial Oversight: Manage the P&L, budgeting, and resource allocation to meet financial targets.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations adhere to Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) regulations and microfinance best practices.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field. An MBA is an advantage.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in Microfinance, Banking, or Credit-focused financial services.

    • At least 4 years in a senior leadership role overseeing regional operations or a large branch network.

  • Skills:

    • Proven track record in credit risk management and debt collections.

    • Demonstrated ability to scale operations and drive commercial growth.

    • Strong leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Advantageous: Experience leading an institution through the transition from a Microfinance to a Commercial Banking entity.
