Head of Treasury

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Head of Treasury to design and lead the treasury architecture for a rapidly scaling fintech specializing in cross-border payments. In this critical leadership role, you will own the end-to-end treasury function—managing liquidity, FX execution (including OTC), and settlement integrity across a complex, multi-country payment ecosystem. This is a unique opportunity to shape financial infrastructure in emerging markets.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Architecture

• Define and execute the overall treasury strategy, optimizing capital allocation and banking infrastructure.

• Design scalable treasury policies, controls, and risk frameworks to support rapid growth.

Liquidity & Cash Management

• Manage real-time liquidity positioning across multiple currencies and payment rails.

• Forecast cash flow needs and ensure optimal funding for domestic disbursements and cross-border settlements.

FX & OTC Desk Management

• Lead FX strategy, including trade execution, hedging, and risk mitigation.

• Manage the internal OTC desk and conduct partner negotiations with banks and liquidity providers.

Settlements & Operations

• Oversee cross-border settlement flows, ensuring speed, accuracy, and cost-efficiency.

• Maintain settlement integrity and resolve any reconciliation breaks or delays.

Team Leadership

• Build, mentor, and lead the treasury function as the company scales, fostering a culture of excellence and automation.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• 7–12+ years of progressive experience in Treasury, FX, Banking Operations, or a related financial role.

• Deep, demonstrable experience within Fintech, Payments, or Financial Infrastructure.

• Proven track record managing multi-currency and multi-market liquidity systems.

• Strong analytical skills with a systems/automation mindset (experience with treasury management systems is a plus).

Preferred

• Experience working across African or other emerging markets is strongly preferred.

• Familiarity with payment schemes (e.g., SWIFT, SADC, EAC cross-border rails) and local regulatory requirements.
