Are you a skilled accountant with strong experience in costing and manufacturing finance? We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Nairobi-based manufacturing team. This is a high-impact role overseeing financial operations, driving profitability, and partnering with production and operations teams to optimize cost performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting & Compliance
Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, financial statements, and variance reports.
Ensure compliance with IFRS, Companies Act, and all relevant statutory regulations.
Coordinate external audit processes and implement audit recommendations.
Maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
2. Costing, Variance Analysis & Margin Improvement
Lead product costing, including raw materials, labour, and overhead allocation.
Perform standard vs. actual cost variance analysis and investigate root causes.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and work with operations to improve gross margins.
Update bill of materials (BOMs) and routings in coordination with production teams.
3. Managing Receivables, Payables & Cash Flow
Oversee accounts payable and receivable cycles to optimize working capital.
Monitor aging reports, follow up on overdue customer accounts, and manage supplier payment schedules.
Prepare cash flow forecasts and ensure sufficient liquidity for manufacturing operations.
4. Business Advisory & Financial Planning
Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes.
Provide financial insights to management for pricing, make-or-buy decisions, and capital investments.
Analyze profitability by product line, customer, or distribution channel.
5. Cross-Functional Support with Production & Operations
Collaborate with production teams to track factory overheads and production efficiency.
Participate in stock takes and inventory valuation (FIFO/weighted average).
Liaise with procurement to monitor raw material price trends and supplier terms.
Key Requirements
Education & Certification
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
CPA (K) or ACCA – mandatory and fully certified.
Experience
4–7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a manufacturing environment.
Strong expertise in cost accounting and inventory management (raw materials, WIP, finished goods).
Demonstrated experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
Solid working knowledge of KRA VAT & tax compliance, including VAT returns, withholding tax, PAYE, and corporate tax.
Technical Competencies
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, financial modelling).
Understanding of manufacturing metrics (yield, scrap, efficiency, utilization).
Familiarity with Kenyan tax laws and eTIMS requirements.
Personal Attributes
Analytical thinker with keen attention to detail.
Proactive problem solver who can challenge costs constructively.
Strong communicator able to work cross-functionally with non-finance teams.
High level of integrity and ethical standards.
What We Offer
Competitive monthly salary of KES 200,000 – 250,000.
