Plant Mechanic Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Equipment Maintenance and Repair:

    • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on plant machinery, including engines, motors, conveyors, and hydraulic systems.
    • Diagnose mechanical problems and repair or replace defective parts.
    • Use hand tools, power tools, and precision-measuring instruments to ensure proper functionality of equipment.
  2. Troubleshooting:

    • Identify and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues with plant equipment.
    • Quickly respond to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime and production losses.
    • Collaborate with other maintenance personnel to resolve complex technical problems.
  3. Preventive Maintenance:

    • Develop and follow preventive maintenance schedules to ensure that machinery operates efficiently and has a long service life.
    • Lubricate, clean, and adjust machinery as needed to prevent wear and tear.
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed on equipment.
  4. Safety Compliance:

    • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while performing maintenance and repairs.
    • Ensure that equipment is safe to operate by conducting regular safety checks and repairs.
    • Participate in safety training and contribute to a safe working environment.
  5. Parts and Inventory Management:

    • Order replacement parts and maintain an inventory of critical components needed for repairs.
    • Work with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery of parts.
    • Keep track of tools, materials, and equipment used in the plant.
  6. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with plant operators, engineers, and other team members to ensure smooth plant operations.
    • Communicate effectively with supervisors and provide updates on the status of repairs and maintenance tasks.
    • Train and mentor junior mechanics and other plant staff on proper equipment handling and maintenance.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or an associate degree in mechanical or industrial technology is preferred.
  • Experience: 2-5 years of experience as a mechanic, preferably in an industrial or plant environment.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT), welding certification) are an advantage.

  • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to disassemble, repair, and reassemble complex machinery.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to quickly diagnose issues and implement effective repairs to minimize downtime.
