Chef Assistant
Description
Garadaworld is looking for a Chef Assistant to join their team. The Chef Assistant is accountable to the contract manager and supervisor, for the responsibilities stated in this job description.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare all ingredients for the daily menu, including chopping vegetables, thawing frozen items, filleting fish, preparing sauces, and setting out any special items
- Assisting the Cook in food preparation activities, such as cleaning, cutting, chopping and peeling food ingredients
- Cleaning and sanitizing the food preparation areas based on company and industry hygiene codes and health and safety standards
- Washing, disinfecting and properly storing cooking and kitchen utensils and equipment in designated areas
- Weighing and storing ingredients and food supplies in accordance with HACCP guidelines
- Operating a variety of kitchen appliances and instruments including cutters, knives, mixers, Cookers, Choppers and ovens
- Managing inventory, unloading supplies and organizing the storeroom
- Assist the line chef as necessary
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen
- Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines
Requirements:
- Diploma in Food & Beverage production from accredited institution
- Basic First Aid & Fire Fighting training
- Not less than 1 year previous experience in a restaurant or food service environment
- Excellent self-motivation and the ability to work unsupervised
- In-depth understanding of food health and safety
- Formal culinary training (strongly preferred but may be substituted for experience)
- Valid food handler's permit
- Valid police clearance
Working Conditions: Chef Assistant will work in a fast-paced work environment and work with hot equipment and sharp knives. The position may require working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
