Accountant – German School Nairobi

The Accountant will be responsible for managing the school’s financial records, overseeing accounts payable, stock and inventory, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. This role is critical in supporting the financial health and compliance of the German School Nairobi.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Accounts Payable:

• Process supplier invoices, ensuring accuracy and timely payment.

• Maintain updated records of all accounts payable transactions.

• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve payment discrepancies.

• Monitor payment cycles and support budget adherence.

2. Stock, Inventory and Asset Management:

• Maintain and monitor the school’s inventory, supplies, and fixed assets.

• Ensure accurate recording and tagging of assets and inventory items.

• Conduct periodic physical stock takes and asset audits.

• Monitor stock levels to avoid overstocking or shortages.

3. Financial Management and Reporting:

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

• Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.

• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and audit requirements.

• Generate reports for school leadership, Board, and auditors as required.

• Maintain general ledger and ensure accurate journal entries.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• CPA (K), ACCA or equivalent professional accounting certification.

• Minimum of 3 years’ accounting experience, preferably in a school or academic institution.

• Proficient in Sage Accounting software.

• Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and financial regulations.

• High attention to detail, analytical thinking, and organizational skills.

• Integrity, confidentiality, and the ability to work both independently and within a team.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
