Job Summary

As a Verification Officer, you will be responsible for conducting thorough background checks and verifications on candidates and organizations. You will ensure the accuracy and credibility of the information collected through investigative procedures, reference validation, and digital research. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and has a strong foundation in criminology, compliance, and digital sourcing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive background checks, including education, employment history, and criminal record verifications.
  • Perform reference checks by contacting referees and verifying the authenticity of information provided.
  • Utilize investigative techniques and follow compliance guidelines in all verification procedures.
  • Review digital and social footprints of individuals where relevant, while adhering to data privacy regulations.
  • Generate timely and accurate verification reports for clients, ensuring factual integrity and proper documentation.
  • Conduct desk research and online investigations using SEO strategies, social media, and digital tools to verify online data.
  • Maintain secure and confidential handling of all data in compliance with the Kenya Data Protection Act.
  • Liaise with academic institutions, previous employers, government bodies, and referees to validate documents.
  • Identify red flags and escalate suspicious or inconsistent information to senior management.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of verification SOPs and best practices.

Minimum Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology and Security Studies, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of basic investigative procedures, compliance, and risk assessment.
  • Proficiency in digital research, SEO, and use of social media for information gathering.
  • Strong understanding of verification processes, including reference checks, document validation, and identity screening.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling sensitive information.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple verifications under tight deadlines.
