Our client, a leading player in the telecommunications infrastructure sector, is seeking a results-driven Assistant Project Manager – Telecommunications (FTTx Projects) to join their team in Nairobi. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting the end-to-end deployment of Fiber-to-the-X (FTTx) networks, ensuring projects are executed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Job Summary
The Assistant Project Manager will provide project management and coordination support for Fiber-to-the-X (FTTx) network deployment projects. The role is responsible for assisting in planning, execution, monitoring, reporting, and stakeholder coordination to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards and contractual requirements.

The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, field engineers, contractors, suppliers, and clients to support end-to-end project delivery activities, including site acquisition, permits, civil works, fiber installation, testing, commissioning, and project close-out.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Coordination

  • Support the Project Manager in planning, scheduling, and executing FTTx deployment projects.

  • Coordinate project activities across engineering, operations, logistics, procurement, and field teams.

  • Monitor project milestones and deliverables to ensure timely completion.

  • Assist in developing project plans, work schedules, resource allocation plans, and deployment trackers.

  • Coordinate project meetings and prepare agendas, minutes, and action logs.

Project Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track project progress against approved schedules, budgets, and KPIs.

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly project status reports.

  • Maintain project documentation, records, and reporting dashboards.

  • Monitor project risks, issues, and dependencies and escalate concerns when necessary.

  • Support performance tracking of contractors and subcontractors.

Stakeholder Management

  • Liaise with clients, contractors, local authorities, utility providers, and internal stakeholders.

  • Facilitate communication between project teams and ensure timely resolution of project-related issues.

  • Support stakeholder engagement activities and maintain positive working relationships.

Resource & Vendor Management

  • Assist in coordinating field teams, subcontractors, and vendors.

  • Track material requirements, deliveries, and inventory utilization.

  • Support procurement and logistics processes to ensure project continuity.

  • Verify contractor deliverables and support invoice validation processes.

Quality, Compliance & HSE

  • Ensure project activities comply with company policies, contractual obligations, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Support implementation of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements on project sites.

  • Assist with quality inspections, audits, and acceptance processes.

  • Monitor compliance with deployment standards and project specifications.

Documentation & Project Close-Out

  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including permits, approvals, drawings, acceptance certificates, and as-built records.

  • Support project handover and close-out activities.

  • Ensure all project documentation is complete and properly archived.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.

  • 2–5 years of experience in telecommunications project coordination or project management.

  • Experience supporting FTTx, fiber optic, network rollout, or infrastructure deployment projects.

  • Experience working with contractors, vendors, and field operations teams.

  • Familiarity with telecom deployment processes, including civil works, fiber installation, testing, and commissioning.
