Our client, a growing player in the insurance sector, is seeking an experienced and results-driven Business Development Executive to drive growth through acquiring new clients, retaining existing relationships, and identifying new business opportunities. The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience in the insurance industry and a strong understanding of insurance products, underwriting basics, and client needs.
Job Summary
The Business Development Executive will be responsible for generating leads, selling insurance products (general, life, medical, or micro-insurance as applicable), building agent and broker networks, and achieving revenue targets. The role involves developing strategic partnerships, managing client relationships, and contributing to the company's market share growth in Nairobi and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
Identify and prospect new clients (individuals, SMEs, corporates, and groups) for insurance products.
Present and sell insurance policies including motor, medical, life, property, travel, and liability covers.
Achieve monthly and quarterly revenue targets as set by management.
Develop and execute a business development plan to penetrate new market segments.
Cross-sell and upsell to existing clients based on their changing risk profiles.
Client Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients to ensure retention and referrals.
Conduct client needs assessments and recommend appropriate insurance solutions.
Handle client queries, policy renewals, and claims follow-ups in coordination with the underwriting and claims teams.
Maintain a customer database and track all interactions using a CRM system.
Partner & Agent Network Development
Recruit, onboard, and support insurance agents and intermediaries.
Train agents on product features, pricing, and sales techniques.
Build partnerships with SACCOs, banks, car dealerships, hospitals, and other affinity groups.
Market Intelligence & Reporting
Monitor competitor activities, market trends, and customer preferences.
Provide weekly and monthly sales reports, pipeline updates, and activity logs to management.
Gather client feedback to assist in product development or improvement.
Compliance & Documentation
Ensure all sales and client onboarding processes comply with IRA (Insurance Regulatory Authority) guidelines.
Assist clients with accurate proposal forms, declarations, and policy documentation.
Maintain confidentiality and integrity in handling client data.
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Insurance, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 2–3 years of proven sales or business development experience in the insurance industry (general, life, or medical insurance).
COP (Certificate of Proficiency in Insurance) – required or must be obtained within 3 months.
Active IRA accreditation as an agent or intermediary is highly desirable.
Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
Strong knowledge of insurance products, underwriting basics, and claims processes.
Excellent negotiation, presentation, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and drive results with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and CRM tools.
Must have a valid smartphone/laptop and reliable means of transport (motorcycle or car is an added advantage).
Compensation & Benefits
Gross monthly salary: KES 50,000
Commission structure: Attractive commissions based on achieved premiums (to be disclosed during interview)
