Description
We are seeking a meticulous and objective Credit Verifier to join our team. Reporting to the Senior Officer, you will be the backbone of our risk management framework. Your primary mandate is to conduct thorough Know Your Customer (KYC) processes, mitigate potential bad debts, and ensure that all lending decisions are based on accurate, verified data.
You will act as the company’s detective, bridging the gap between the information on paper and the reality on the ground by assessing applicants' financial status, character, and willingness to repay.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Verification & Due Diligence
Conduct end-to-end verification of information provided by loan applicants to ensure authenticity and accuracy.
Perform physical visits to confirm residential addresses, business premises, and operational legitimacy.
Scrutinize public records to identify bankruptcies, liens, legal judgments, or unpaid taxes that could impact creditworthiness.
Risk Assessment
Analyze the depth and legitimacy of commercial relationships between sellers and buyers.
Investigate business establishments applying for credit, ensuring all statutory documents (e.g., certificates of incorporation, PIN certificates) are valid.
Review financial behavior and social credibility indicators to form a comprehensive view of the applicant's character.
Reporting & Communication
Compile detailed verification reports and recommend appropriate credit limits based on objective findings.
Provide clear, professional, and compliant explanations to applicants in cases where credit is declined.
Liaise with the credit team to highlight potential risks and red flags.
Portfolio & Compliance
Actively work to maintain and improve the quality of the credit portfolio to prevent organizational loss.
Stay updated on industry trends, legal changes, and regulatory requirements affecting credit verification.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor to support departmental goals.
PERSON SPECIFICATION (Requirements)
Education & Qualifications
Diploma or Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or a related field.
Certification in Credit Management (e.g., ICPAK, KIB) is an added advantage.
Experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience in credit verification, microfinance, or a similar role within the financial services sector.
Experience in field verification and KYC processes is required.

- Tech Savvy: Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word) and familiarity with CRM or loan management systems.
- Self-Drive: Willingness to travel within Nairobi and surrounding areas for physical verifications.
- Objectivity: Unbiased judgment regardless of personal feelings or relationships.
