Description

The IT Assistant is responsible for supporting the IT department in maintaining and troubleshooting hardware, software, and network systems. This role involves providing technical assistance to staff, ensuring smooth daily operations of IT infrastructure, and helping implement new technologies. The IT Assistant works closely with IT specialists, administrators, and other departments to resolve technical issues and ensure optimal system performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Technical Support: Provide first-level technical support to employees, addressing issues related to hardware, software, and network systems. Assist with troubleshooting and resolving IT problems in a timely manner.
  2. Hardware and Software Maintenance: Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of computer hardware, software, and peripherals. Perform routine maintenance and updates to ensure system reliability and performance.
  3. Network Support: Help monitor and maintain network infrastructure, including switches, routers, and servers. Assist with network troubleshooting and connectivity issues.
  4. User Account Management: Support the creation, management, and troubleshooting of user accounts and permissions in various systems, including email and network access.
  5. Security and Data Protection: Assist in implementing security protocols, including antivirus updates, software patches, and backups to safeguard company data and systems.
  6. Inventory Management: Maintain an inventory of IT equipment and software licenses, tracking their usage, and ensuring that equipment is properly allocated and maintained.
  7. Documentation: Create and update IT documentation, including user guides, troubleshooting steps, and system configurations, to ensure consistency in IT operations and support.
  8. Training and Support: Provide basic IT training to staff, helping them understand and effectively use technology resources. Assist in onboarding new employees with IT setups.
  9. System Upgrades: Assist in implementing system upgrades and new technology deployments. Ensure minimal disruption to daily operations during upgrades or changes.
  10. Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with external vendors for IT-related purchases, repairs, and services. Ensure timely delivery and installation of equipment.
  11. Backup and Recovery: Support the backup and recovery process to protect organizational data, ensuring that backup schedules are followed and data integrity is maintained.
  12. IT Projects: Participate in IT-related projects, assisting in research, planning, and implementation of new technologies and systems.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in IT support or a related role.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of computer hardware, software, operating systems (e.g., Windows, macOS), and networking. Familiarity with troubleshooting techniques and IT security protocols.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues effectively.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to assist non-technical users with IT-related problems.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with the IT team and other departments, providing effective and timely support.
  • Certifications: IT certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft Certified) are a plus.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily office-based with occasional off-site visits for troubleshooting or installation of equipment.
  • May involve lifting and carrying computer equipment and peripherals.
  • Ability to work flexible hours or on-call as needed for system maintenance or emergency troubleshooting.
