Packhouse Manager
Description
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Packhouse Manager to oversee operations at our avocado packing facility. The ideal candidate will ensure operational efficiency, maintain relationships with suppliers and farmers, and uphold compliance with local and international standards. Strong analytical and leadership skills are essential for optimizing processes, managing teams, and ensuring the facility operates smoothly
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily operations of the packhouse, including sorting, grading, packing, and dispatching avocados to meet quality and production targets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and farmers to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality produce.
- Supervise, train, and motivate packhouse staff to meet performance and safety standards.
- Ensure avocados meet export quality standards through inspections, temperature control, and proper handling during loading.
- Ensure adherence to Global GAP, SMETA, and EU Organic certifications by maintaining traceability, regulatory compliance, and detailed documentation.
- Ensure all machinery and equipment within the plant are properly maintained and functioning optimally.
- Utilize analytical skills to identify inefficiencies and implement solutions for continuous improvement.
- Monitor packing materials and supplies, ensuring optimal stock levels to avoid interruptions.
- Prepare and present weekly, monthly, and annual reports on operational performance, productivity, and quality metrics to the Operations Manager and Director.
- Maintain strict adherence to health and safety regulations, fostering a safe work environment.
- Address and resolve disputes in accordance with company employment and disciplinary codes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Degree or diploma in Agriculture, Supply Chain Management, Food Science, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in packhouse or processing management, preferably in the Avocado value chain.
- Certifications Knowledge: Familiarity with Global GAP, SMETA, EU Organic compliance and implementation, as well as Food Safety standards.
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze data and implement data-driven solutions to improve processes and productivity.
- Leadership: Demonstrated experience in managing and motivating diverse teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise effectively with farmers, suppliers, and internal teams.
