General Accountant – Royal Mabati Ltd

The General Accountant will be responsible for maintaining financial records, preparing financial statements, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and tax requirements. The role requires a proactive professional with strong analytical skills and attention to detail to support the organization’s financial health and operational efficiency.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Accounting and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS.
    • Assist in preparing management reports, including variance analysis.
  2. Accounts Payable and Receivable:

    • Process invoices, payments, and receipts in a timely manner.
    • Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on overdue payments.
    • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies.
  3. Tax Compliance:

    • Prepare and file statutory returns (VAT, PAYE, NSSF, NHIF, Withholding Tax, etc.).
    • Ensure compliance with local tax regulations and liaise with tax authorities as required.
  4. Banking and Cash Management:

    • Perform bank reconciliations and ensure accurate recording of transactions.
    • Manage petty cash and maintain proper documentation for all disbursements.
  5. Budgeting and Forecasting:

    • Support the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
    • Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis.
  6. Internal Controls and Compliance:

    • Ensure adherence to financial policies and procedures.
    • Identify and address internal control gaps to mitigate risks.
  7. Audit and External Liaison:

    • Assist in the preparation and coordination of internal and external audits.
    • Provide necessary documentation and support during audits.
  8. Process Improvement:

    • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and systems.
    • Assist in the implementation of financial software and tools as needed.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional Certifications:

    • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or ACCA certification is preferred.
  • Experience:

    • At least 3–5 years of experience in accounting or a similar role, preferably in the manufacturing sector.
  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAGE, or ERP systems).
    • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
  • Key Competencies:

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
