Inventory Control Accountant – Royal Mabati Ltd

The Inventory Control Accountant is responsible for managing and reconciling inventory transactions, ensuring accurate reporting of inventory levels and valuation, and supporting the overall inventory management process. The role requires close collaboration with the procurement, warehouse, and finance teams to ensure optimal inventory practices and compliance with financial policies.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Inventory Management and Reconciliation:

    • Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure timely recording of stock movements.
    • Reconcile physical inventory counts with system records and resolve discrepancies.
    • Monitor stock levels and report on inventory variances or shortages.
  2. Cost Accounting and Valuation:

    • Perform inventory valuation in accordance with IFRS and company policies.
    • Analyze inventory costs, including landed costs and manufacturing costs.
    • Provide input on cost-saving initiatives related to inventory management.
  3. Reporting and Analysis:

    • Prepare regular inventory reports, including stock aging, turnover rates, and valuation.
    • Generate reports for slow-moving, obsolete, or damaged inventory and recommend actions.
    • Support management with inventory forecasting and planning insights.
  4. Internal Controls and Compliance:

    • Implement and monitor inventory control procedures to safeguard assets.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
    • Conduct periodic audits of inventory processes and systems.
  5. Collaboration and Coordination:

    • Liaise with procurement, warehouse, and production teams to ensure smooth inventory operations.
    • Assist in resolving issues related to inventory discrepancies or delays.
    • Support the finance team in month-end and year-end closing processes.
  6. Systems and Process Improvements:

    • Oversee the accuracy and reliability of inventory management systems.
    • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance inventory accuracy and efficiency.
  7. Audit Support:

    • Provide documentation and reports for internal and external audits related to inventory.
    • Address audit queries and ensure timely resolution of issues.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional Certifications:

    • CPA (Certified Public Accountant), ACCA, or equivalent certification is an added advantage.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in inventory accounting, cost accounting, or a related role, preferably in the manufacturing or construction industry.
  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in inventory management software (e.g., ERP systems, QuickBooks, or SAGE).
    • Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables and data analysis.
  • Key Competencies:

    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
    • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.

  • Timeliness of inventory reports and analyses.
