The Assistant Head Housekeeper is responsible for assisting the Head Housekeeper in maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of guest accommodation tents. This role includes managing the daily operations of the housekeeping and laundry departments, supervising and training staff, managing schedules, and ensuring high standards of cleanliness in rooms and public areas.

  • This position is based in Maasai Mara, Kenya

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels both in the housekeeping & Laundry.
  • Ensure all operations of the housekeeping and Laundry meet the set quality and hygiene standards.
  • Training of new staff and conducting performance reviews.
  • Maintain proper functioning of laundry equipment and ensure periodic maintenance is done.
  • Develop and update housekeeping and laundry standards.
  • Implementation of cost saving measures in the housekeeping and laundry without compromising on quality.
  • Schedule periodic cleaning of tents, public areas, floor rugs and other maintenance in the tents.
  • Provides support to the head Housekeeper in all areas of a housekeeping operation, such as staff training, coaching, and counseling, and enforces the camps standard operating procedures.
  • Assigns team members their duties, and inspects work for conformance to prescribed standards of cleanliness.
  • Maintain clear and efficient communication and coordination with the Front Office and other departments of the camp.
  • Investigate concerns regarding housekeeping service and equipment and take corrective action.
  • Submit requests for repair and periodic maintenance of cleaning equipment.
  • Prepares store requisition, purchases other supplies and monitors par stock on all housekeeping guest supplies and linens.
  • Monitor and report on laundry performance metrics.
  • Schedule and manage staff shift and workloads as well as offs & Leaves for both Housekeeping and Laundry.

CANDIDATE PROFILE
Qualification

  • Diploma or certification in hospitality management, housekeeping, or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in housekeeping or laundry operations, preferably in a hospitality environment.
  • Supervisory experience in managing housekeeping and laundry teams.
  • Knowledge of housekeeping and laundry equipment maintenance.
  • Familiarity with hygiene, safety, and quality standards in housekeeping and laundry operations.

Skills:

  • Ability to effectively deal with guests, other departments, and housekeeping/Laundry staff.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle guest complaints or concerns professionally.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other housekeeping management software is an added advantage.
  • Attention to detail, with a focus on maintaining high cleanliness standards.
