The Agency for Cross Border Pastoralists Development (APaD) is a non-governmental organization committed to improving the lives of marginalized pastoralist communities in Kenya’s arid and semi-arid lands. APaD implements programs in peacebuilding, sustainable livelihoods, climate change adaptation, WASH, health, advocacy, gender equality, and youth empowerment. Job Summary
APaD Kenya is seeking a dynamic and creative Communication & Advisory Officer to support its communications, advocacy, and public engagement efforts. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies, managing internal and external communications, producing high-quality content, and strengthening APaD’s visibility and influence at local, national, and regional levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the organization’s communication and visibility strategy
- Create, edit, and publish content for various platforms, including websites, social media, newsletters, and reports
- Document and share success stories, impact narratives, and field updates from ongoing projects
- Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all APaD communications
- Manage and grow APaD’s digital presence including social media platforms and website content
- Liaise with media houses and stakeholders to promote APaD’s initiatives and advocacy efforts
- Provide communication support during events, workshops, and field missions
- Develop IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) materials for public education and awareness
- Support internal communication among staff and ensure knowledge sharing within the organization
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of communication efforts and adjust strategies as needed
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Development Studies, or a related field
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a similar communication or advocacy role, preferably in an NGO or development context
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili
- Strong skills in content creation (articles, photography, video, social media)
- Proficiency in digital tools including Microsoft Office, social media management platforms, and basic graphic design or video editing software
- Knowledge of communication for development (C4D), advocacy, or public engagement strategies
- Understanding of issues affecting pastoralist communities and/or marginalized groups is an added advantage
