Description
The Sales Attendant is responsible for supporting daily retail outlet operations by attending to customers, processing sales transactions, handling payments, safeguarding stock and ensuring the outlet is clean, organized and professionally presented.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend to customers professionally and provide appropriate assistance.
- Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Operate POS systems and handle cash and other approved payment methods.
- Issue receipts and ensure all sales are properly recorded.
- Ensure the outlet remains clean, organized and well-presented.
- Safeguard company stock, cash, equipment and other company property.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages, damages or discrepancies.
- Comply with approved sales procedures, instructions and operational guidelines.
- Maintain accurate sales, cash and other required records.
- Promptly report losses, irregularities, breaches or suspected misconduct.
- Maintain professional relationships with customers, colleagues, suppliers and supervisors.
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor or management.
Requirements
- Minimum KCSE certificate or equivalent.
- 1–2 years of experience in a Sales Attendant, Shop Attendant, Retail Sales or similar position.
- Previous experience in FMCG, retail, supermarket, restaurant, hospitality, duty-free or other fast-paced customer-facing environments is preferred.
- Experience handling cash, POS systems and electronic payment platforms.
- Good customer service and sales skills.
- Basic numeracy and ability to accurately handle and account for cash.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and follow established procedures.
- Presentable, professional and customer-focused.
- Honest, reliable and trustworthy, with a high level of accountability.
- Ability to work flexible hours, weekends and public holidays where required.
- Ability to work effectively in a busy retail environment.
