Description
The Store Steward is responsible for the safe, accurate and timely movement of stock from the central store to the company's airport retail shops.
The role involves collecting approved dispatches, transporting goods to designated shops, supporting the handover and verification of stock, obtaining the required confirmations and returning completed documentation to the Procurement team.
Key Responsibilities
Dispatch Collection
- Collect approved and verified stock from the central store for delivery to designated airport shops.
- Confirm that all goods correspond with the dispatch note.
- Count and verify items before leaving the store.
- Ensure goods are properly packed and secure for transportation.
- Ensure the dispatch note accompanies every stock movement.
Safe Transportation of Stock
- Transport goods safely from the central store to assigned airport shops.
- Handle fragile merchandise, curios, artifacts, apparel, tea and coffee products with care.
- Take reasonable precautions to prevent damage, loss, contamination or breakage.
- Maintain custody of stock until it is formally handed over to the receiving shop.
Airport Dispatch Procedures
- Report for dispatch according to the approved schedule.
- Follow airport security, screening and access procedures at all times.
- Ensure all required identification and access documentation is available.
- Comply with instructions from airport security and authorized company personnel.
Shop Handover
- Deliver goods to the correct airport shop as indicated on the dispatch note.
- Present the goods and dispatch note to authorized receiving staff.
- Assist in counting and verifying delivered goods.
- Obtain the required confirmation on dispatch documentation.
- Report any discrepancies immediately before leaving the shop.
Stock Accountability
- Maintain full custody of stock while it is under your responsibility.
- Do not leave company stock unattended or hand it over to unauthorized persons.
- Report missing, damaged, broken or incorrect items immediately.
- Ensure no stock is added to or removed from a dispatch without authorization.
Documentation
- Maintain proper custody of dispatch notes during transportation.
- Ensure all required signatures and confirmations are obtained at the receiving shop.
- Report any missing or incomplete documentation.
Store Support
- Assist with loading and arranging goods for dispatch.
- Assist with moving stock within the central store when required.
- Support stock counts and physical verification exercises.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness and order in dispatch areas.
- Support urgent stock movements as directed.
Communication & Reporting
- Maintain clear communication with the Procurement Officer.
- Inform the Procurement Officer of any delivery delays.
- Immediately report discrepancies, damages, security concerns or unusual incidents.
- Provide feedback on recurring challenges experienced during dispatch and delivery.
Qualifications & Experience
- KCSE certificate or equivalent.
- Previous experience in stores, warehouse, logistics, retail or delivery operations is an added advantage.
- Ability to accurately count and verify goods.
- Ability to follow instructions and established procedures.
- Ability to work in a busy airport and retail environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physically able to handle and move stock as required.
